Lindfield Rotary is happy to have the support and co-operation of the many Council officers who assist us with the quite onerous task of meeting our OH&S obligations. Their efforts on our behalf are much appreciated. We are also appreciative of the efforts of Council staff in the four branch libraries in publicising the event.
For many years we have been helped on the day by a large contingent of Ku-ring-gai State Emergency Service personell who provide critical support as Marshalls on the course and who also assist us with the provision of a whole variety of essential equipment for the running of the event. The support of these volunteers is a critical success factor for he Fun Run. As you would be aware the SES of course provide immense support services in times of community emergency. Lindfield Rotary is very happy to have the support of the Ku-ring-gai Bush Fire Brigade who will provide on course Marshalls for the Fun Run. Yet another great example of volunteer groups coming together to assist one another in the service of our community
Thankfully we have not had to manage many incidents requiring First Aid during the running of the Fun Run in past years and we hope that 2011 will also be incident free but just in case we will again have our First Aid Tent manned by officers from the St John Ambulance Brigade and we are delighted that they are happy to attend in support of the event. Find out about the work of St John Ambulance by clicking on the logo.
Among the many organizations that are interested in community health and well being, Hooked on Health has done a great deal to promote the Lindfield Rotary Fun Run as a particularly worthwhile community event and is offering participants the opportunity to join some free seminars and/or a variety of running groups preparing specifically for the Lindfield Rotary Fun Run.
Can Too! We Train You! Fun, Fitness and Fundraising!
Can Too is a non profit program that matches fitness incentives with a good cause. Beginners and experienced athletes alike are given professional coaching as part of a team to run or swim in endurance events – including half-marathon, marathon and 10km runs; as well as ocean swims. In return, participants raise valuable funds that go directly towards funding cancer researchers through Cure Cancer Australia.
It’s the irresistible combination of fitness and fundraising that has seen Can Too raise over $7.8 million since its inception in 2005, while training more than 6,000 men and women to reach goals they never thought possible. In 2011, 13 grants have been provided by Can Too through Cure Cancer Australia to young researchers across all fields of cancer research.
How does Can Too work?
We have groups training for goal events in May 2013. Training commences February 15th 2013 and Can Too enters a large team in the Rotary Lindfield Fun Run as a key training run in preparation for the half-marathon.
Participants sign up to the 14 week half-marathon program and are welcomed by their team captains and mentors- these are individuals who have completed Can Too programs and now want to help others achieve their goals.
Participants are coached by a professional team of coaches at a mid-week track session followed by a distance run on Saturday and given tips on nutrition, hydration and recovery to maximise performance and protect against injury.
"It’s so much fun and I can’t believe I’m going to achieve this goal that I never thought possible. A great program and team support is making it possible. You Can Too!"
